Autofocus is not reliably completing a full cycle
On the Fusion Pro 48 autofocus plunger can sometimes become “sticky” and the machine will not reliably complete a full autofocus cycle. Keep an eye on the head of the laser during the autofocus and check that the bed travels up, contacts the plunger, and then moves down again.
If it gets “stuck” with the bed in the upper position then you can re-run the autofocus cycle by pressing the button again.
Cleaning the connection in the head
- Turn on the machine and jog the head of the laser to the front centre where it can be easily reached.
- Turn off the machine.
- Using a T7 Torx bit, remove the two screws holding down the rear, raised area of the blue sheet metal cover.
Note: Keep these seperate as they are longer than the others. - Remove the remaining screws from the blue sheet metal cover.
- Using a T6 Torx bit, remove the screws retaining the printed circuit board (PCB).
- Remove the PCB from the laser head housing. You may need to remove the cable from the clip in the housing.
- Unplug the USB connector.
- Spray the USB connector on the PCB with contact cleaner.
Warning: Do not spray contact cleaner onto the lens of the camera on the underside of the PCB. - Spray the USB connector on the cable with contact cleaner.
Warning: Do not spray contact cleaner onto the optical components of the laser head, such as the mirror or lens. - Allow the contact cleaner to evaporate.
- Plug the USB cable into the connector on the PCB, with the camera facing down.
- Fit the PCB into the laser housing head, lining the mounting holes up with the bosses in the housing.
- Using a T6 Torx bit, secure the PCB in place.
- Clean up the work area so that the laser head is free to move unobstructed.
- Turn the machine back on and let it complete the homing cycle.
- Test the autofocus plunger multiple times to check that the intermittent fault has disappeared.
- Jog the laser head to the front centre where it can be easily reached.
- Turn off the machine.
- Fit the blue sheet metal cover over the laser head housing.
- Using a T7 Torx bit, secure the cover in place. Start with the two longer screws in the raised section at the back of the housing.
- You can now turn the machine on and perform additional tests.
If this does not resolve the issue the USB cable to the head may need to be replaced. Contact CSI Manufacturing to arrange for spares.
