Each garnet bag weighs 25 kg. Do not attempt to move or lift bags unless you have completed manual handling training.

Refilling the Bulk Abrasive Hopper

Garnet stock is stored on a pallet in the multi-purpose storage room near the Goods In area of the SEE Building. If you need more garnet, ask a technician to get it from the storage room.

  • Turn off the compressed air supply (AIR IN) at the hopper.
  • Make sure that the lid is on the hopper.
  • Open the DUMP VALVE. Wait until the container is not under pressure.
  • Close the DUMP VALVE.
  • Remove the lid.
  • Add one container of abrasive. If necessary, add more containers.
    Caution: Make sure that no foreign material enters the hopper. Foreign material in the hopper can block the nozzle.
  • Clean the surfaces of the seal that touch each other.
  • Pull the T-handle of the seal upward.
  • While you hold the T-handle in this position, turn on the compressed air supply (AIR IN) at the hopper.
  • When the seal stays in position by itself, put the lid back on the hopper.
