Sewing machine oil is used to lubricate the bearing rods on our 3D printers. This maintenance task is taken care of by the Maker Space Technical Staff, students don't need to worry about doing this.

Can also be used for precision lubrication purposes where a fine, low viscosity oil is required.

Personal Protective Equipment

Nitrile gloves
Normal use should not pose a hazard. Repeated exposure may dry out your skin and/or cause irritation. You may wish to wear nitrile gloves to protect your skin, and wash your hands after use. You may wish to use a barrier cream to provide further protection.
Safety Glasses
Normal use should not pose a hazard. Wear safety glasses to protect against eye exposure where drips and splashes are likely to occur.

Usage Tips

  • Only a small amount is needed to lubricate the rails on the 3D printers - too much is detrimental to the working of the bearings.
  • Be careful to not drip any oil onto the printer build plate. If this occurs, make sure the build plate is cleaned thoroughly with soap and water before DimaFix is re-applied.
