COSHH - Simple Green - Extreme Simple Green - Concentrate

From Make In Salford

Extreme Simple Green is a general purpose cleaner and degreaser which specifically does not damage aluminium components when at a concentration weaker than 1:13. Typically we use a concentration of around 5%, or 1:20, so it is safe for use on all metal components in the workshop.

In critical appications rinse parts thoroughly with clean water to prevent degreaser-related corrosion from trace amounts of Simple Green. See the Technical Datasheet for more information.

Manufacturer's Information

Personal Protective Equipment

Safety Glasses
You must wear safety glasses when working with the concentrate or dilutions stronger than 12.5%.
Optional Nitrile Gloves
People with sensitive skin may wish to wear nitrile gloves when working with this cleaner.

Hazards

Keep out of reach of children
Causes serious eye irritation
Concentrate and dilutions stronger than 12.5% are seriously irritating to eyes. YOu must wear eye protection when working with strong concentrations.

Usage Information

  • If using in the ultrasonic cleaner do not heat more than 40 degrees C as the cleaner will lose effectiveness.

Dilution

When this cleaner is diluted to a solution weaker than 12.5% (1:8) it is no longer necessary to wear eye protection as the risk of eye harm is greatly reduced. You must wear eye protection when working with the concentrate or with dilutions stronger than 12.5% (1:8). As a general rule the Maker Space does not use dilutions stronger than 12.5%. This is safer for both the people working with the cleaner, less likely to damage the materials that are being cleaned, and more cost effective because it uses less concentrate.

Any cleaner you find in the workshops will typically be diluted at around 5%.

Making up working solution

Using a clean glass beaker add 40 ml of simple green concentrate to a clean, empty 750 ml spray bottle. Top up to 25mm below the neck opening with cold water, replace the spray mechanism and shake gently to mix. When adding the water, do so slowly to avoid foaming the solution. If foam is produced, let it flow from the top of the spray bottle container until the appropriate fluid level is achieved. This produces a good general purpose working solution at approximately 5% (1:20) concentration.

For stronger dilutions refer to the Technical Datasheet for the recommended use cases.
