Out-of-hours Compressed Air

The compressed air in the SEE Building is on a timer – it automatically turns on Monday to Friday at approximately 7:30 AM to supply air throughout the day and turns off again at around 8:00 PM.

This can be an issue if the CNC machines need to run on long jobs overnight as the air will turn off and they will alarm out in the middle of a cut, or over weekends if there is an open day.

To override this you need to either ask the building manager for out-of-hours air in good time, or set the control timer to the “Off” condition in the plant room on the 4th floor. The plant room is accessible via the goods lift, and requires a service key. You will need to be taken there by a member of the estates staff.

Press the red “O” button to turn off timer mode and keep the compressors running continuously. Press the green “I” button to restore timer mode.

Remember to turn the compressor off again once it is no longer needed as the compressed air provision is a significant part of the energy consumption of the building.
