There are a few different reasons for this happening, but in most instances it is because the stroke path direction has been set incorrectly. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-medium\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/makeinsalford.com\/wiki\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/illustrator-align-stroke-199x300.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-591\" srcset=\"https:\/\/makeinsalford.com\/wiki\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/illustrator-align-stroke-199x300.png 199w, https:\/\/makeinsalford.com\/wiki\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/illustrator-align-stroke.png 513w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Setting Align Stroke to Centre<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the Stroke panel, Illustrator provides three alignment options:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Align Stroke to Centre\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Align Stroke to Inside\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Align Stroke to Outside\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These are useful in graphic design situations, but for laser cutting use Align Stroke to Centre &#8211; the other options will not work reliably. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Select the object you want to change<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Select the object you want to update<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open the Stroke panel (<strong>Window menu <\/strong>\u2192 <strong>Stroke<\/strong>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>Align Stroke to Centre<\/strong>. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To select all the similar stroke lines in the design you can use <strong>Select menu <\/strong>\u2192 <strong>Same <\/strong>\u2192<strong> Stroke Color<\/strong> or <strong>Stroke Weight<\/strong>.
