In this case, cycles is set to &#8220;2&#8221; so the path with cut twice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Change the cycles value to 1.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The cycles option is useful for materials that need a few passes to cut through, or where you don&#8217;t want to put a lot of energy into the material at once and would prefer to work more slowly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s also useful for engraving, where one pass doesn&#8217;t quite clean up the surface of the material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Duplicated lines in CAD<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CAD drawings can sometimes contain two or more lines positioned directly on top of each other.\u00a0These are difficult to see because the lines appear to be a single object.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Zoom into the artwork.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select a suspicious line.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Move it slightly away from its original position.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check whether another line remains underneath.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use Undo (Ctrl+Z)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Delete unnecessary duplicate geometry.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You may find that duplicated lines are grouped together. If you&#8217;re having trouble finding the offending geometry, try ungrouping objects. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-thumbnail\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/makeinsalford.com\/wiki\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/illustrator-overlapping-lines-150x150.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-578\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Finding overlapping lines visually<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Illustrator lines placed directly on top of each other can appear thicker and slightly darker.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this illustration the top red line is a single stroke. The lower line has two identical strokes overlapping, which makes it appear darker and thicker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Check carefully before deleting geometry.\u00a0Two lines that appear to overlap may be separate parts of the design.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pay particular attention to:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Shared edges.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Repeated CAD geometry.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Copied objects.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lines around holes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Symptoms Causes This is usually caused by one of two problems &#8211; either the number of cycles for a path has been increased in Epilog Dashboard, or there are some duplicated lines in your CAD file.
