Do not use this method when you need accurate length.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/makeinsalford.com\/wiki\/cnc-machining\/haas-st-15y-lathe\/machine-operation-haas-st-15y-lathe\/433\/automatic-tool-turret\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"433\">Using the ATC<\/a>, change to an OD turning tool, for example T2.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Move the tool to a position near the front face of the material, about 1 millimeter from the face.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make sure that the tool is a few millimeters outside the OD of the stock. This prevents collision with the stationary material.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Move the tool slowly toward the face of the stock in the Z axis. Stop when the tool is aligned with the face by eye.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter the Offset page by pressing the <strong>OFFSET <\/strong>button. Navigate the tabs at the top, or press <strong>F4<\/strong>, to enter the Work Offset page.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Move the cursor to the Z field of the correct work offset. Press the<strong> Z FACE MEASURE<\/strong> button on the control panel.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Careful setting<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Use this method for second operations, or when you must take more care with the use of material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Note: When you use this method, always move the tool away from the stock. Do not try to pinch the gauge material between the tool and the stock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Caution: Do not pinch the gauge between the tool and the material. This can damage the insert, the material, the gauge, or the machine.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"hpb-block-front\"><div class=\"hpb-item\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/makeinsalford.com\/wiki\/wp-content\/plugins\/hazard-ppe-pictogram-block-v1.7.4\/assets\/pictograms\/crush.png\" class=\"hpb-icon\" alt=\"Crush hazard pictogram\" \/><div class=\"hpb-text\"><div class=\"hpb-title\">Crush Hazard<\/div><div class=\"hpb-desc\">You are moving the machine manually, near a pinch zone. Know the path of movement of the machine. Use a long gauge pin to keep your hands away from the pinch zone.<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"hpb-item\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/makeinsalford.com\/wiki\/wp-content\/plugins\/hazard-ppe-pictogram-block-v1.7.4\/assets\/pictograms\/general.png\" class=\"hpb-icon\" alt=\"General hazard pictogram\" \/><div class=\"hpb-text\"><div class=\"hpb-title\">Danger to machine<\/div><div class=\"hpb-desc\">Do not pinch the gauge between the tool and the material. This can damage the insert, the material, the gauge, or the machine.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You need a piece of gauge material with a smooth, consistent outer diameter. The material must be long enough for you to hold it safely, away from the machine. A piece of 12 mm material, centerless-ground to a diameter of 12.00 mm, is available and is correct for this purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/makeinsalford.com\/wiki\/cnc-machining\/haas-st-15y-lathe\/machine-operation-haas-st-15y-lathe\/433\/automatic-tool-turret\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"433\">Using the ATC<\/a>, to an OD turning tool, for example T2.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Move the tool to a position near the front face of the material. The distance must be a little less than the diameter of the gauge pin.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make sure that the gauge pin does not fit between the tip of the tool and the face of the workpiece.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Move the tool away from the workpiece slowly, in the Z axis, in fine jog increments.<br>Warning: You must only move the tool away from the workpiece while the gauge is in between the tool and the workpiece. Moving towards the workpiece may damage the turning insert, the gauge, the workpiece, or the machine.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Continue to move the tool away in the Z axis until the gauge pin slips through the gap. The tool is now approximately one gauge-pin diameter away from the front face of the workpiece. Keep the gauge flat against the face of the material.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter the Offset page by pressing the <strong>OFFSET <\/strong>button. Navigate the tabs at the top, or press <strong>F4<\/strong>, to enter the Work Offset page.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Move the cursor to the Z field of the correct work offset. Press the <strong>Z FACE MEASURE<\/strong> button on the control panel.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Press the negative key. Type the diameter of the gauge pin. Press <strong>ENTER<\/strong>. This action subtracts the diameter of the gauge pin from the Z offset. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The origin then moves to the front face of the material.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can make small adjustments to this offset to fine-tune the length of parts or features.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rough setting Use this method for first operations only.
