{"id":247,"date":"2026-01-16T14:51:57","date_gmt":"2026-01-16T14:51:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/makeinsalford.com\/wiki2\/?p=247"},"modified":"2026-07-28T11:34:12","modified_gmt":"2026-07-28T10:34:12","slug":"water-is-going-up-the-abrasive-feed-hose-instead-of-out-of-the-nozzle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/makeinsalford.com\/wiki\/cnc-machining\/waterjet-cutting\/troubleshooting\/247\/water-is-going-up-the-abrasive-feed-hose-instead-of-out-of-the-nozzle\/","title":{"rendered":"Water is going up the abrasive feed hose instead of out of the nozzle."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Check the gap between the nozzle and the material<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Make sure the nozzle does not touch the top of the material at any point in the cutting path.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make sure the gap between the nozzle and the top of the material is at minimum of the thickness of the Z-setting gauge at all points in the cutting path.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NOTE: Thin material can bend upwards under pressure from the water jet and the air that moves with it. This bending can cause a blockage of the nozzle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>If more gap is needed<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If necessary, increase the distance between the nozzle and the material to more than the minimum thickness of the Z-setting gauge.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>If the nozzle still blocks the water flow<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"4\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Make sure the nozzle does not touch the material.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the nozzle blocks the water flow, the nozzle has a blockage.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ask the technical staff to invert the nozzle and unclog it. They should:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"6\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Turn the nozzle in the nozzle body so the pointed end is pointed upwards.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tighten the nozzle collet nut securely.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do a high-pressure water test to clean the nozzle.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>If the blockage does not clear<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"9\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If the high-pressure water test does not remove the blockage, run the 100-cycle sample file in the OMAX software. This file starts and stops the pump 100 times to try to remove contamination<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Check the gap between the nozzle and the material NOTE: Thin material can bend upwards under pressure from the water jet and the air that moves with it.
