Personal Protective Equipment

Safety Glasses
You must wear safety glasses when using the arbor press to protect against shattering or ejected parts.
Work Gloves
Wear work gloves when working with sheet metal. Edges and corners can be sharp, even when deburred.

Specific risks you should be aware of

Amputation Risk
All parts of the machine move during operation, even if you are not using that particular functionality. This includes the shear/guillotine. Keep your fingers and clothing clear of the machine during operation.
Pinch Hazard
Be aware of the lever arm. If the arm is in the "upright" position make sure the locking screw is secured properly. Do not work underneath the lever arm in case it drops on you.
Entanglement
All parts of the machine move during operation, even if you are not using that particular functionality.

Keep clear of moving parts, and be aware of other people who may be working around you or with you. Do not wear jewellery or loose clothing. Tie back long hair.

Excessive force on lever arm
Do not attempt to use this machine with material exceeding the maximum specified thickness.

Do not extend the lever arm with a cheater bar or similar to gain exert additional force as this may cause damage or injury. Be aware of where your hands will go in the event the material breaks or shears suddenly.

Sharp Edges
Sheet material can have sharp edges, which may cause cuts. Carefully deburr your parts before you start, and wear work gloves.
Material will move during bending
During the bending process the material will fold upwards. Keep clear of the material during bending operations.

Dynamic Risk Assessment

Working on this equipment requires a dynamic risk assessment. You should consider, and have an answer for, the following before starting work:

  • What are you working on.
  • What are you expecting to happen?
  • How could this process go wrong, and how bad would that be?
  • How will you mitigate the risk of a bad outcome?
  • Are other people in danger?

If you cannot mitigate the risks effectively ask a member of technical staff for help before starting work.
