Turning the Machine On

  • Press the green Power On button. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen.
  • Pay special attention to where the turret is located and whether it will collide with anything when it rotates to index itself.

Warming Up the Machine

You must warm up the spindle before use. This will take about 10 minutes, and gives you plenty of time to prepare your raw material for cutting. The warm up process ensure the bearings are warm and coated in oil before they are put under heavy load, thus extending spindle life.

Not warming up the spindle appropriately will cause damage to the spindle bearings.

  • Remove any material from the spindle completely.
  • Make sure the turret is safely in the home position.
  • Press the LIST PROGRAM mode button and find the "Lathe Spindle Warmup" program.
  • Press the SELECT PROGRAM button to load it into active memory.
  • Press the MEM (Memory) mode button, then press Cycle Start

You may wish to flush the coolant through during the warmup cycle. To do this, simply press the COOLANT button.

Turning the Machine Off

You must wear work gloves when clearing out swarf from the lathe. Swarf can be incredibly sharp.

Clean the inside of the machine enclosure using a brush and the air hose. Brush any chips caught up in the paneling. Make sure you get all the chips onto the conveyor at the base of the machine casting, especially if they are ferrous metal.

If there is a lot of material in the chip pan you should remove as much of it as you can into the chip bin. Don't use the normal general waste bin. Leave the machine as clean as you would like to find it. Get chips off of ledges, out from within the turret, everywhere.

  • Once the machine is clean, send the turret back to the home position by closing the door and pressing G28 Home. Be wary of any boring bars or internal tools which may be inside the part or in danger of colliding with workholding, workpieces, or the tailstock. The turret will move outwards in X then back to the home position in Z.
  • Take the material out of the chuck by unclamping the hydraulics. Do not leave work clamped in the hydraulic chuck overnight.
  • Remove the live centre from the tailstock, if it has been used.
  • Close the door.
  • Press CHIP FWD on the control panel to start the chip conveyor running.
  • Clean up around the machine, putting tools back in their places and sweeping chips up from the floor.
  • Once the chip conveyor has emptied into the chip bin you can turn if off by pressing RESET or CHIP STOP.
  • Press the E-Stop button.
  • Press the red Power Off button to turn off the machine.
