Be certain to follow these instructions exactly as written. The CMM is a complicated precision measurement equipment and can be damaged easily if it isn't turned on properly.

Turning the machine on

  • Clean the air bearing area of the granite surface plate with surface plate cleaner if required. Use a clean paper towel and ensure the bearing area is clean and dry.
  • Turn ON the wall mounted compressed air (CMM AIR) valve.
  • Turn ON the rotary isolator labelled CMM MACHINE POWER located on back of the black control cabinet.
  • Turn ON the controller PC and log in.
  • On the PC, open CMM Manager from the desktop.
The software may ask for a username and company, which should be prepopulated.
    Username:                 User
    Company:                  Salford Uni
  • On the PC a window will appear “The machine is going to perform a homing operation”. Click OK.
  • Press the MASTER START button on the machine pendant when prompted.
  • Manually jog the probe head to a safe location if required.
Press the JOG ENABLE button on the pendant and then use the joystick to move the probe head.
  • Once the probe is safe press the ENTER button.
The machine will now home itself into the top-back-left corner of the machine.

Do not jog the machine with the pendant with CMM AIR turned off.
  • Turn OFF the rotary isolator labelled CMM MACHINE POWER located on back of the black control cabinet.
