This machine is excellent for all sheet-format wood work. It uses a rotary cutting tool like an endmill or a drill to cut into sheet material like plywood, MDF, chipboard etc. This material is held to the bed using a powerful vacuum pump.

There are three dedicated tool pockets in the automatic tool changer, but it's possible to program more tools for manual tool changes.

Training

To book training on this machine please complete the training request form.

Programs for running the router are created within Fusion 360's Manufacturing workspace. If you are planning on using this machine it's recommended that you learn the basics of using the software before requesting training.

Usage Information

Warming up the spindle

The spindle must not be run cold - this will damage the bearings and reduce the lifespan of the spindle dramatically. If the spindle has been sat for more than two hours after it was turned on, please make sure you run the spindle warmup cycle.

Probing Tool Length

Each time you start up the machine you should check the tools in the pots and probe their tool length. Don't rely on the previous person setting up the machine properly. Thankfully, it's a quick 2 minute process to probe them all.

Vacuum Bed and Wasteboard

Material is not usually clamped or fixed down on this CNC router - instead it is sucked down through the MDF wasteboard/bed with a massive three-phase vacuum pump. Find out how to set vacuum bed zones and how to re-surface the wasteboard.

Function Codes

To perform day-to-day operations on the router (such as changing and measuring tools) you will need to use function codes. This is a reference table covering all the function codes you should need.

Troubleshooting

A few issues crop up repeatedly. If you're having trouble with the router check this page to see if it's something we've come across before.
